Is Sasquatch Real

Stories and reported sightings of large, bipedal, hair-covered “ape-men” are not a new phenomenon.  These legends have transcended the boundaries of continents, cultures and time and live on today in the minds and recollections of true believers and those who have had alleged first-hand encounters with this man/ape hybrid.

The internet age has encouraged the sharing of information worldwide despite language or cultural differences.  The Bigfoot legend specifically relates to a creature that is found in North America, whose legend has lasted from Native American folklore traditions to now.

Physical Description:

is bigfoot real

Bigfoot is said to generally be a tall, hair-covered creature that resembles a cross between a man and an ape that is said to weigh on average around 600 pounds.  Its hair or fur is reported to be either brown or red, although other colors have been reported.

The shape of the head is reminiscent of a gorillas head and shares similar facial features with the great apes as well. It is said to exude a strong and unpleasant odor which has been beneficial to those who have tried to capture images and videos of this illusive creature.  The pungent odor is sign of Bigfoot’s presence according to Bigfoot trackers.

Discrepancy exists when it comes to the number of toes on its incredibly large feet that can measure up to twenty-four inches in length.  The majority of reports maintain that, like all great apes, Bigfoot has five toes.  Other reports have varied in numbers that are as low as two and as high as six.  Some alleged casts of Bigfoot footprints report claws while in others they are absent.  Due to its illusive and mysterious nature, large amounts of verifiable information are scarce at best.

Indigenous Legends:

Prior to the first documented “evidence” supporting the existence of Bigfoot in North America in 1958, many legends of supposed “wildmen” existed throughout Native American cultures ranging throughout many different tribes existing in the Pacific Northwest.  Details varied among different populations of people but all shared a common thread.  The legends featured large human-like creatures that were considered giants and outside of the realm of normal society.  These stories were often monster tales told to children to teach them a moral lesson or were simply verbal legends that had been passed down for generations.

Scientific Opinion:

Despite the vehement assertions by many different “eyewitnesses” to Bigfoot sightings, the scientific community largely believes that no such creature exists.  The common explanation for supposed sightings rests largely on purported animal misidentification.  A large percentage of the footage that claims to capture Bigfoot on film is shaky, blurry or otherwise indistinguishable.

Most mainstream scientists who have examined footage of proposed Bigfoot sightings have claimed that the creature in question is simply a bear that is known to be able to walk for short distances on their hind legs alone or similar scenarios.

Many Bigfoot claims have been proven to be hoaxes after the fact.  Those involved in the scheme have often come forward after the fact or succumbed to pressure from the scientific community over the nature of the evidence they claim to have.  While mainstream science remains relatively certain, the opinion of the general public is still largely undecided. The question remains “is Bigfoot real”?
